Gaffer Privacy Policy

The short version Gaffer is made by Zanza Inc., a Canadian company ("we"). Gaffer keeps your jobs, photos and numbers on your phone. We don't collect, sell or share your data, and the app has no ads or tracking. Receipt photos are read by AI to list their items, then discarded.

What Gaffer stores, and where

Everything you enter is saved only on your phone:

Job details such as addresses, client names, phone numbers and emails
Before and after photos you take or add in the app
Your business name, logo, contact details and settings
Quotes, costs, receipt photos and profit figures
Invoice details such as tax rate and how clients can pay you

None of this is stored by us or on any server we run. The one exception is a receipt photo being read, described below, which isn't kept. If you delete the app, your data is deleted with it.

Camera and photos

Gaffer asks for camera access to take job and receipt photos, and photo library access so you can add photos you already took and choose a logo. You can turn either off at any time in your phone's settings. The app does not record audio.

Reading receipts

When you snap a receipt, Gaffer sends that photo to our server, which uses Anthropic's Claude AI to read the store name and items. We use the photo only to read it at that moment and don't keep it. Anthropic handles it under its commercial terms, which don't allow it to be used to train AI, and may hold it for a limited time for safety checks. Your saved copy of the receipt stays on your phone.

Sending reports and reminders

When you send a report, invoice or review reminder, Gaffer prepares it on your phone and hands it to the app you choose, such as Messages, Mail or another sharing app. That app sends it, under its own privacy policy. Gaffer does not see or keep a copy of what you send.

Backups

If you save a backup, Gaffer creates a file on your phone and you choose where it goes, for example Files, iCloud Drive or Google Drive. It is kept wherever you save it.

Deleting your data

Delete a job in the app to remove it and its photos. Deleting the app removes everything Gaffer stored on your phone.

Children

Gaffer is a business tool for adults and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Gaffer handles data, for example by adding accounts, we will update this page and the effective date before that version of the app is released.
